The Koru Games Futsal competitions will be played in accordance with the normal rules of futsal unless otherwise specified below:

1. All games shall be played in the spirit of ‘Fair Play’ and positivity. To mark this all players will shake hands before and after each game.
2. Each team will consist of 10 players with five players on the court at a time. 1 x Goal Keep (GK) and 4 x outfield players. 
   
3. No offside. 
   
4. When the ball goes out across either sideline, play is restarted from a kick in (important to encourage the players to place the ball on the line before kicking it in). Opposition players are encouraged to be back 3m to allow the ball to be passed in.
   
5. When the ball crosses either baseline, play will be restarted with either of the following – a goalkeeper’s throw-in inside the GK half circle that is near the goal, or a corner ball placed on the line in the corner.
   
6. A 4 second time limit will apply with kick ins and when the goalkeeper has the ball (encourages players to restart quickly).
   
7. For a kick in, corner or free kicks, the opposition are encouraged to be 3m away from the ball. 
   
8. The GK can only touch the ball once in the sequence. The GK can touch the ball again once the ball goes out of play or the opposition touch the ball or if the GK receives the ball over the halfway line. If the GK was to touch the ball twice it is an indirect freekick from where the second touch happens. If the second touch happens inside the GK circle the ball will be taken outside the circle in line with where the touch occurred. 
   
9. GK can only handle the ball inside the half circle at the end of each court near the goal they are defending. 
   
10. Substitutions are rolling but the player needs to come off the court before the player can step on the court. They must substitute on the same side and half as where their team's bench is. 
    
11. Shin pads are compulsory.

12. No Boots! Indoor non marking shoes to be worn.

Boys and Girls tournaments will be played separately. 

Girls are permitted to play within a ‘boys’ team if needed to make up numbers but they will compete in the Boys competition. 

Each school can only enter one team in each competition. If you have additional teams wanting to play, please add them to the waitlist form and we will be in contact once registrations close if there are spaces available in that competition.

The Futsal tournament has separate boys and girls competitions. They will play round robin games in pools, the results of which will give seeding for a knockout round (penalty shoot outs will be used in knockout rounds if there is a draw at full time) resulting in overall placings. 

Competition Formats (All sports)

SUFC will supply the match balls.

Each team is responsible for supplying their own shinpads for each player.

We are committed to using this tournament as a development for youth officials.  Each team will need their own referee and whistle, we encourage you to use senior student referees from your School or a Highschool near you.  Otherwise a parent/caregiver/coach will be great. Upskilling can happen prior to the tournament for those that need it.

All teams/schools are required to bring their own basic first aid supplies to deal with minor injuries that may occur.

First Aid will be at the Rolleston Hub to support competitors with sporting injuries throughout the Games.
