The Selwyn Sports Trust has launched a refreshed Strategic Statement of Direction for 2026 - 2030, marking the next chapter in its mission to inspire active lives and stronger connections across Selwyn.
“This isn’t just a plan on paper,” said Mitch Prendergast, Executive Officer of the Selwyn Sports Trust. “It’s a roadmap for the whole community, for tamariki, rangatahi, adults, and whānau, to enjoy physical activity together in ways that are welcoming, inclusive, and fun.”
The refreshed strategy was developed with input from the public, community partners, and key stakeholders to ensure it reflects what Selwyn needs most. Participation growth is a key measure of success, with a focus on attracting new participants while keeping every programme and event accessible to all.
“This strategy sets out clear ways we can bring our vision to life,” Prendergast said. “From the Selwyn Stampede to the Selwyn Kids Triathlon, the Koru Games through to our Activation Spectacular kaupapa, every initiative is about connecting people, building trust, and creating joyful experiences.”
Over the next five years, the Trust will deliver a diverse range of programmes and events. These include the Activator Programme in schools, the Rangatahi Strategy across all four Selwyn Secondary Schools, the iBike and eBike Programmes, and other initiatives designed to make being active simple, accessible, and enjoyable for everyone.
“Working alongside our schools, partners, and community members has been invaluable,” Prendergast added. “It’s through these connections that we know we can make a real difference, helping Selwyn people lead more active, connected lives.”
